Requirements for AICA Membership
Candidates are elected by their peers, by secret ballot. To be eligible, they must be able to produce evidence of a sustained activity over the previous three years, in one or more of the following areas :
- Daily/periodical press, or broadcasting on radio, TV or video, or in the electronic media
- Publication of texts on a subject related to art history, aesthetics or art criticism
- Teaching of art criticism, art history, aesthetics, (secondary school, higher education or university)
- Curatorial work, including the production of scholarly or critical texts for museums or galleries, whose principal aim is not commercial
How to become a member?
To become a member of ABCA / BVKC [Association Belge des Critiques d'Art / Belgische Vereniging van Kunstcritici], we invite you to send us your application to abcabvkc@gmail.com.
We encourage you to submit your application by 31 January or 31 August.
Your file should contain the following documents [ * .pdf or * .doc (x); if necessary through wetransfer.com or alternative*]:
1. A letter of introduction
2. A CV
3. A selection of your representative and published critical texts on contemporary art and / or the sponsorship by two ABCA/BVKC Members.
In case of text submission, your documents will be evaluated by our Reading Committee and proposed with an evaluation to the Board.
When applying through sponsorship, your introduction letter and CV should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation by each of your sponsors.
In both cases, when approved by the Board, your application will be proposed for acceptance to the General Assembly. After acceptance by the GA, you will then become a member of the national section, and you will be invited to pay your annual fee (€70.00) for the current year.
An international EMC form will then be sent to you and returned to us duly completed permitting us to present your candidacy to the International Association of Art Critics AICA [Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art] before the Annual General Meeting in Paris (early March) or before the annual Congress (end of September, beginning of October). After your candidature is assessed positively, you will be sent your personal international membership card.
